My Story...

My passion for fine-quality woodwork first began back in 1981, in the very same workshop that I now find myself working in once again.

Starting out by creating Shetland spinning wheels and turned work, I developed my skills over the next 28 years, expanding into bespoke hardwood furniture. Over the years as I worked with various kinds of locally sourced timber, drying it myself in my own kiln, an appreciation of each piece of wood, and the tree from which it came, grew in me.

The sad early passing of my father in 2009, however, resulted in my business taking a back seat as I took on the role of managing his narrow gauge railway at nearby Heatherslaw. Although I never stopped completely with my woodwork, fitting in the occasional commission piece here and there, it wasn’t until a change in circumstances during the start of the pandemic in 2020 that I found myself again working with wood as cabinet maker and foreman at Countryside Kitchens in the Borders.

But now, two and a half years later, a desire to return to my roots and begin again, creating a re-modelled and re-branded woodwork business, has found me back in my old workshop. As before I want to create natural and sustainably-sourced products that are built to last, but this time I am looking to give my work a contemporary twist.

Each piece in my range of furniture and homeware is designed and handcrafted by myself. The natural beauty of each piece of wood guides me in my work to create unique and innovative products. I want my work to stand the test of time. In the same way that each tree takes years and years to grow and mature, quality woodwork should be built to last in the home and be appreciated for years and years. Care and time is poured into every item I make. My creations are not designed to be throwaway products as so many mass-produced items are nowadays, but rather they should be functional works of art that last a lifetime, if not more!
